The past few days have, unsurprisingly, flown by. Only notable things are: bike ride to the library (despite one of the librarians being convinced that kids who can drive will never again ride a bike) and back home when it was totally dark out (was prepared, though, with extra clothes and flashlight which came in handy b/c there’re no lights on in my neighborhood); unpacking, which turned into something of a “dig through stuff and throw most of it out” kind of thing…it was interesting, rediscovering some things from freshman year; oversleeping thanks to not sleeping during normal hours (bad “habit”, maybe, from college…?); attempting to write stuff…yesterday’s (was that when it was?) attempt was going the right way until I leaned over onto a nearby couch…and you know how that story goes; spending all of yesterday doing…I don’t even know…but not even going on the computer, which is probably something of an achievement in this day and age; and finally, starting to clean my room.
Cleaning my room is apparently some kind of major undertaking. I finished with a small part of it during weird hours yesterday night/this morning–I guess “Phase 1”, as I’ve started to think of it, is just the first of a sure to be annoying series in the battle against my room. It’s not quite fair, since the room has got a head start and the help of a zillion pounds of dust, some of which might be as old as me. You wouldn’t think that a room not even too big would be so troublesome, but it’s deceptive.
Like anyone who’s ever attempted to clean stuff that’s piled up over years, I found that it was definitely a journey through time. I found some more recent stuff, like brochures and the like from the trip to China last summer (tucked away into archives), to notes from high school (promptly tossed into a bag for later recycling).
Nowadays, I like my things relatively organized, so the room’ll
eventually get its long-due makeover, done in bursts as I feel like it.
As I was organizing and cleaning the room, tossing away stuff that maybe a year earlier I’d’ve been reluctant to mess with, I couldn’t help but wonder if at the same time I was trying to do the same to my life in general. Maybe. The room’ll get cleaned in due time, and the other one…maybe.
In the meantime I’ll work on trying to take in all the new things, and put a bit more emphasis on finishing entries I intend to write.
Maybe back later tonight…always that little chance.
